BISHOP MALONE HAS RESIGNED, CONFIRMING EARLIER REPORTS

Multiple local, national and international news outlets report that Bishop Richard Malone requested early retirement and that Pope Francis has accepted that resignation and appointed Bishop Edward Scharfenberger of Albany Apostolic Administrator. Rocco Palma, of Whispers in the Loggia has been reporting that this was expected since Bishop Malone’s ad limina visit to Rome last month.
